Background Information The Philippine archipelago consists of 7,107 islands and is bounded to the south by Malaysia, to the west by Vietnam, and to the north by Taiwan. Located in the western part of the Pacifi c Ocean, the country is made up of three big island groups: Luzon to the north, Visayas at the center, and Mindanao to the south.
