ABSTRACT
In 2007 the European Union (EU) has celebrated its 50th anniversary. Since the signature of the Treaty of Rome in 1957, the EU has undergone a remarkable process of expansion and, so far, a successful integration that has proved very profitable to its country members, not only from an economic point of view but also, and even maybe more significantly, from a social and political perspective.
