Agricultural cooperatives and value chain coordination: Jos Bijman, Roldan Muradian and Andrei Cechin
The chapter is structured as follows. Section 5.2 presents the theoretical perspectives of transaction cost economics and organization theory. Section 5.3 discusses insights from studies on social structure, and how they may be applied to the analysis of cooperatives. Section 5.4 describes four coordination mechanisms and elaborates on their application to coordination problems in agricultural cooperatives. Section 5.5 discusses the contractions and complementarities among coordination mechanisms. The chapter finishes with a brief conclusion.
