Learning from LibriVox: Michael Hancher


Founded in August 2005, the LibriVox international collective of readersaloud1 has posted more than three thousand audiobooks online, gratis, which have been downloaded, in whole or in part, more than fi ve million times.2 In the process it has begun to release poems and novels, histories and treatises from the abstraction of the page and to give them voice, renewing some of the popular protocols for articulate reading that were formalized, disciplined, and fi nally extinguished by Elocution a century ago.3
