ABSTRACT

The impact of fear in poultry and other farm animals has often been grossly underestimated. In this essay, I will explain why it is imperative that we reduce fear in intensively reared poul try and I will discuss ways of achieving this. I will also explain what I mean by the term fear , identify the sorts of frightening stimuli that chickens and other poultry species might com monly encounter, and briefly describe selected methods of measuring fear in poultry.
