ABSTRACT

Anthropologists engaged in field research in urban areas are faced with methodological problems quite different from those of the student of traditional societies. In this paper the problem of geographical dispersal of the population under study is taken up. Various techniques of incorporation into the social networks of group members are discussed, with reference to the Sikh community of Los Angeles. These include neighborhood, kinship, common employment, and others. The most profitable means of incorporation is pointed out, and its significance detailed.
