Evolution of the economic system in China, 1796–1978

The evolution of the economic system in China between 1796 and 1978 was, without a doubt, a very complex process and, given the vast size of the country, clearly varied region by region over this period. The task of this paper, however, is to look only at how change (or continuity) really occurred on the mainland of China.
