Labour Markets In Asia: A Comparative Analysis

Introduction Labour markets in Asia have experienced tremendous changes over the past two decades as many Asian economies have transitioned from an agrarian to industrial society, or from an industrial to a post-industrial society (Mason, 2002). The challenges brought on by globalization and the intense competitive environment it produced led the key decision makers – governments, business and trade unions – to recognize that macro-economic reform of labour market policies, as well as adopting new strategies for employment relations at the enterprise level, were necessary and crucial for both economic survival and political legitimacy (Felipe and Hasan, 2006).
