ABSTRACT

The case study region ‘Wetteraukreis’ is characterised by both rural and urban features. Its proximity to the Rhine-Main conurbation with Frankfurt (Main) in the centre as well as many small-sized rural villages and towns shape the region. Rural traditions are maintained, especially in respect of culinary specialities, farmers’ markets, festivals and events, while, at the same time, urban influences are becoming more visible, in socio-cultural as well as economic terms. Quality of life, natural resource endowment and the availability of social and economic infrastructures and services are high.
