ABSTRACT
Gendered citizenship represents a central theoretical and political concept today. The fi rst section of this chapter discusses the contemporary theorization of citizenship, in particular the importance of context and the contribution that feminism has made to our understanding of the concept and to a more differentiated analysis thereof. The second section will use feminist theory and research to explore the multi-tiered nature of citizenship, moving from the intimate to the global.
