Extension: Seamlessly Art
Peggy Albers’ chapter shows us that the humanities represent humankind’s ways of communicating with each other. In order to expand our communication potential, the arts-language, art, music, dance, drama-need to become a seamless part of the ongoing curriculum and central to our reclaiming of the many languages we use to make meaning. Because of an existing emphasis on written language, by third grade too many children say they can’t sing. By fourth grade, too many children say they can’t draw. Here are some examples of what I mean and why I think integrating the arts throughout the curriculum is so important.
