ABSTRACT

This chapter examines policy initiatives in Australia as exemplified by the Better Pathways Strategy implemented by the Department of Justice, in Victoria, Australia. This gender-specific strategy for working with women offenders places great emphasis on community-based approaches, incorporating therapeutic approaches to the treatment of issues that lead to women’s offending behaviour, with the aim to not only reduce offending but also achieve more effective outcomes for women.
