Creativity and Innovation: An Educational Perspective: Erica McWilliam
This chapter maps the contribution of education to creativity and innovation. To do so, it explores a number of different domains of educational theorising and practice, and what they bring to twenty-fi rst-century understandings of creativity and innovation as related fi elds. The chapter proceeds by way of providing defi nitional clarity and an historical overview, before moving to consider substantive contributions under the following headings:
• Creativity and Education of Different Kinds • Creativity and Purpose: Humanistic versus Utilitarian • Creativity and Education at Different Levels • Creativity and Individual versus Social Process
Finally it considers some policy implications of all this for contemporary and future education.
