Media, migrations and transnational cultures: Tristan Mattelart

The literature on migrations and on diasporas has become, in the AngloSaxon academic field, since the end of the 1980s, one of the main places where are studied cultural transformations in times of globalization. In this perspective, contemporaneous identities and cultures tend to be presented as in a state of permanent flux, constantly evolving under the pressure of intercultural encounters. Media flows, along with people flows, are seen in these works as playing a central role: they are described as contributing actively to the advent of new transnational identities and cultures.
