Quilting As a Meaning-Making Intervention for HIV/AIDS

This activity uses personal and collaborative quilting as a way for people with HIV/AIDS and their families and friends to make meaning of the illness and improve their communication with one another. The active participation of the therapist differentiates this activity from others associated with memorial quilts, particularly the AIDS Memorial Quilt; however, it integrates with, and intends to complement, related community activities. Although this activity is best documented in relation to HIV/AIDS, similar activities may also serve much the same function for people with other terminal conditions and their families and friends.
