Put a Wrench in It

ByNicole M. Childs Stephanie R. Burwell

This contribution provides a unique opportunity for clients to determine where and how they discontinue the cyclical nature of a presenting problem. The example provided in this chapter was used with a woman who presented with bulimia. Given the systemic nature of this intervention, it can be adapted and applied to other common problems such as depression, anxiety, and relational distress. It is also flexible enough to be used as an activity or intervention within the therapy room, or as an assignment to complete outside of the session.
