Achoo!: Treating Clients When the Therapist Faces a Chronic Illness

ByKatherine M. Hertlein

When therapists face personal issues that may affect their therapy, they are often advised to seek support, increase their vigilance around their schedule, and establish and maintain appropriate boundaries. Therapists who face a chronic illness also have to adjust their schedules, boundaries, and seek support in much the same way. The objective of this activity is to provide couple and family therapists who are struggling with their own illness strategies for appropriately interacting with families.
