The Prodigal Child

ByDavid R. Miller

Objective Stress is rarely more prevalent than when a parent and child are at odds with each other, and

perhaps with God as well. Counseling a rebellious child and one or two upset parents requires maturity and discernment on the part of the Christian counselor. Subjects for the counseling process with the child or adolescent include the importance of submission and prayer while still in the parent-child sphere of life, God’s perspective on humility and obedience, the role of faith in the process, the consequences of continued rebellion and sin, and the rebirth of family harmony. Note that parents are likely to contribute to the stress in the parent-child relationship and may require help refocusing on their parental role as outlined in the Bible.
