ABSTRACT

Lucy and Caleb came to see me on the recommendation of Caleb’s brother, who had seen me a few years previously when he and his wife were divorcing. I present this case because it shows how Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) works, both in principle and in practice. I chose this case because there are elements that might entice the practitioner into pathologizing either an individual or family, and I resisted both. In this chapter, I will show the use of basic SFBT principles and practices in the forms of client-therapist relationship, goals, miracle question, exceptions, scaling, the break, and suggestions.
