ABSTRACT

One of the most devastating discoveries we face when forced to play a new role or take on a new identity, is that we are no longer comfortable in our own skin. The question “who am I?” covers territory from our head to our toes and from our skin to our capillaries. We may not know how we work physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually anymore. We may not be able to identify our true desires, beliefs, values, or goals. We may not even know how we would like to wear our hair, dress ourselves, or wear our makeup. When we look in the mirror, we see ghosts with no form or substance. These thoughts, feelings, and perceptions may last a few seconds, a few days, a few weeks, or a few years. However long it lasts, discovering the answer to “who am I?” can either be one of the most terrifying journeys we will ever take or one of the most exciting.
