ABSTRACT

Science parks are increasingly used in many countries as a popular strategy for promoting innovation, especially among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Co-location of firms in a science park, it is argued, encourages networking and collaboration, which can foster innovation. Science parks thus provide an environment that assist firms to develop their technological and innovative capabilities. In particular, science parks provide a resource network that enables firms located in them to collaborate with universities and research institutions. This chapter investigates the role of science parks in enhancing university–industry collaboration and puts the case for science parks to the test with reference to the experience of Malaysia.
