ABSTRACT

The Norwegian picturebook Angry Man (Sinna Mann, 2003) is written by Gro Dahle and illustrated by Svein Nyhus. Briefl y, the picturebook introduces us to Boj who faces a diffi cult situation at home. He has a Daddy whom he loves dearly, but sometimes Daddy changes. It is as if there is an angry man inside Daddy who will turn Daddy into somebody who will be nasty and hit you. Boj does not know what to do. He is afraid of everything. He is afraid to be noisy or loud, because then Daddy may suddenly turn angry. Boj wonders whether it is his fault that Daddy becomes angry. Boj would like to tell somebody about everything that is bad, that Daddy beats Mummy, but he is unable to do it. Not right away, anyway. But then he has a bright idea. He writes a letter to the King! Boj trusts the King, and thanks to Boj for sounding the alarm, it looks as if Boj’s family will get the help they need.
