When asked about his artistic aspirations, Artur Z · mijewski is clear about his intent: “I’d like to
be a partner in the political struggle.”1 Rather than staging aggressive interventions in society,
Z · mijewski uses a camera to document how people respond when they encounter behaviors
or philosophies with which they are uncomfortable or unfamiliar. To do this, Z · mijewski first
establishes situations that force his subjects to confront difference, and then records the
resulting tension in his videos and photographs.
