ABSTRACT

Construction organisations are always faced with the need to cope with changes during projects; most of these are design related and, in the vast majority of cases, inevitable even after the most detailed design studies. Besides handling changes at project level, construction companies are also required to consider their impact at organisational level. This is usually more challenging for construction companies which have geographically dispersed organisational structures, are multidisciplinary in nature, and manage one-off projects with different participation in each. However, in an environment characterised by ever-increasing customer expectations in a global market, change management can play a key role in the quest by organisations to achieve competitive advantage.
