ABSTRACT

In April 2008 researchers at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine released a study which “showed” that obese people contribute more harmful gases to the planet than thin people.1 Using the presumption that obese people eat more and drive more than thin people, they effectively deduced that the extra fuel devoted to producing and distributing food for the obese, as well as that spent on transporting them, was causing global warming. As stated by one of the principal investigators, Phil Edwards, “The main message is staying thin. It’s good for you, and it’s good for the planet.”
