Winnicott with Lacan: Living creatively in a postmodern world


It seems to me that those of us living in the postmodern era are uniquely qualied to ponder this question, for arguably it is one of the hallmarks of postmodernity to make us feel frantically alive-harried, agitated, and overstimulated-while simultaneously leaving us feeling psychically empty and impoverished. Postmodernity, in other words, adds a new dimension to Winnicott’s denition of creativity by highlighting that aliveness comes in various forms and that not all of these forms are equally conducive to psychic well-being.
