One of the most important ways to advance scientific thinking is to engage in interdisciplinary collaborations rather than working solely within the core of a subfield. Having people from within and outside a field analyze and evaluate knowledge has a host of benefits: It stimulates questions that might never come up while working within a single framework; it introduces new and alternative ways of looking at old problems; and it provides all sorts of unexpected and otherwise unlikely insights.
