ABSTRACT

With any research project, particularly a national, funded project, evaluation is a key focus for both the funding agency and the research team who invest resources, which include expertise, time and finances. For accountability and delivery on agreed goals which may include the success of the research initiative, for instance assessment of impact, evaluation ‘matters’. The evaluation of academic development is a fraught subject and one that continues to challenge the profession (Kreber and Brook, 2001; Bamber, 2008). In this chapter, we provide an account of a national, funded project aimed at demonstrating the impact of academic development on teachers’ and students’ success; in other words, the evaluation of the effectiveness of academic development.
