B. Phonic activities

From Reception class onwards children will have been taught letter sounds. With poor spellers it is important to check which of these sounds the child knows and which they do not know.

It is important to be positive. Find a starting point where the child is experiencing success and so will approach new tasks with confidence. It is not helpful to focus on failure and what the child doesn’t know. Always look for what they do know, not what they don’t.
