ABSTRACT

This chapter will explore the range of ethical dilemmas confronting youth workers who engage in practitioner and participatory research. In this context, ‘practitioner research’ refers to research conducted by practising professionals with ‘insider knowledge’ of the subject they are studying. ‘Participatory research’ refers to research that involves people who might traditionally have been ‘studied’ and seen as ‘research subjects’ acting as researchers themselves, alongside a principal practitioner and/or academic researcher.
