ABSTRACT

The “ceteris paribus” conditions are needed in order to focus the simulation on single-topic elements of the system: a great majority of the components’

behaviors are assumed to be fully independent; such an assumption could be extremely dangerous when dealing with complex systems where the interaction among the parts plays an important role in determining the aggregate results. Agent-based models offer the possibility of simulating a larger number of components’ behaviors in order to increase the plausibility of the model and improve its effectiveness in dealing with simulations of complex aggregates too.
