ABSTRACT

At first glance, the personae of profit-seeking corporate elites and that of peace-seeking diplomats may seem worlds apart. Certainly their motivations and priorities appear to be at odds with one another. Business leaders are interested in selling goods and services, generating personal wealth, and eliminating borders or obstacles to the free movement of products and capital in the global economy. In contrast, diplomats advance ideas and policies, generate discussion and consensus, and pride sovereignty and national boundaries as founding principles of their trade. Despite their differences, elements of these two seemingly intractable world views have collided through the rise of global advocacy and mega philanthropy.
