Foreign Language Education and the Development of Inquiry-Driven Language Programs: Key Challenges and Curricular Planning Strategies

This chapter elaborates on this idea and advocates for the implementation of an inquiry-driven content-based instruction approach by (1) providing a rationale for the use of inquiry when designing curricula for the FL classroom, (2) discussing specific challenges related to the design and implementation of such curricula, and (3) introducing a curricular planning strategy designed to help teachers plan for the concurrent targeting of three core instructional goals, namely, the teaching of content, advanced literacy skills, and academic language.
