Biomechanical aspects of the development of walking: Beverly Ulrich and Masayoshi Kubo
The goal of this chapter is to present four basic theoretical concepts that are core to understanding the development of neuromotor control, specifically applied to the development of walking. After stating each concept we provide a brief introduction to the unique biomechanics tools and principles that are used to study issues relevant to the concept. And we follow with numerous examples from our own and others’ research to illustrate the most important points. At the end of the chapter we summarize key concepts and provide suggestions for application.
