ABSTRACT

Having read this book, it is our belief that you will think diff erently about existing campus policies and practices in relation to low-income students. Our intent was to have the reader question traditional assumptions by disrupting typical approaches involving the conceptualization, research, and work with this population. It is our belief that you cannot change campus practices successfully unless you change your mindset about low-income students and issues such as access, success, and institutional responsibility. In this fi nal chapter, I summarize ways that authors have asked the reader to rethink the orientation to studying and working with students, as well as concepts and theories applied to understand low-income students. I also highlight the themes and ideas that thread throughout all of the chapters of this book.
