In the fall of 1941, the Germans turned the town of Terezín (60 kilometers outside Prague, Czechoslovakia) into a ghetto for Jews and renamed it Theresienstadt, as it had been originally called. The orders for the deportations to the ghetto were issued directly from SS-Obersturmbannführer Adolf Eichmann.
