ABSTRACT

I n this chapter, I review evidence of romantic attachment variation across cultures focusing on findings from the International Sexuality Description Project (ISDP; see Schmitt et al., 2003, 2004) and the International Sexuality Description Project 2 (ISDP-2; see Schmitt et al., 2008). The ISDP and ISDP-2 involved the collaborative research efforts of more than 150 scientists from around the world. Among the primary aims of the ISDP and ISDP-2 was to uncover the ways in which gender, personality, and culture influence romantic attachment and basic human mating strategies.
