ABSTRACT

Internet usage has increased dramatically since the 1980s(Living Internet, 2008). In June 2008, approximately 1.4 billion individuals worldwide had access to the Internet (Internet World Stats, 2008). In the United States alone, it is estimated that 73.6% of the population use the Internet (Internet World Stats, 2008). Furthermore, the U.S. Department of Justice estimates that over 21 million teenagers are using the Internet in the United States and 51% of these individuals use it daily (Lenhart, 2005). The Internet permeates almost every aspect of our lives, ranging from work and school to leisure and recreation activities. In fact, for many of the nation’s younger citizens, it is difficult to imagine life without the Internet.
