ABSTRACT

Moll and Gonzalez summarize their findings by positing as the basis for a transformed classroom a three-way relationship between a teacher (informed by funds of knowledge), students, and texts (also informed by funds of knowledge):

The relationships between teacher and students always mediate the students’ engagement with texts, as well as what literacy comes to mean for them within the classroom . . . So, in a sense, teacher-student relationships not only mediate but are mediated by the type of texts found in these classrooms.
