ABSTRACT

What is international management (IM)? This question has been asked repeatedly by different authors in recent years in the specialized literature without a defi nite answer. What has not been asked is, why this has become a crucial question in the United States (US) rather than in every country or region? The virtual silence in Latin America, in particular, about what IM is or should be and the lack of understandings or worldviews of IM from different countries or regions in an era of globalization constitute a problematic picture given the general argument that cross-cultural issues, diversity and eclecticism constitute the core of IM as an academic fi eld.
