ABSTRACT

King’s Spafford is a comprehensive City Technology College situated on the edge of an industrial town in the East Midlands. It has 1,250 students on roll aged 11-18 (250 in the sixth form), and is therefore larger than most other secondary colleges, and there are more boys than girls. The college is over-subscribed. It partly selects students at age 11 as directed by the government, for their aptitude in Science and Technology, but otherwise the spread of abilities is normal.
