ABSTRACT

High transport costs resulting from inefficiencies in transport services and poor transportation conditions are an obstacle to trade, and they impede the realization of gains from trade liberalization. On the other hand, efficient transportation services contribute to a country’s ability to participate in global trade and enhance the economic development of the country. As the elimination of inefficiencies in transport services and the improvement of transportation infrastructure can be achieved to a large extent by liberalizing the sector, countries try to implement the required policy reforms in the sector.
