The emergence of the web with its astonishing number of celebrity websites, both authorized and unauthorized, has had a profound impact on the nature and management of star discourse. By destabilizing the boundaries between public and private speech and threatening the hegemony of the star discourse fostered by the film industry, it has produced a new and unprecedented politics of star management.The early history of the web has been marked by consistent skirmishes between Hollywood and its fans, a struggle which may never be resolved.
