Strategic innovation in EPC

ByT. MICHAEL TOOLE, PAUL S. CHINOWSKY, AND MATTHEW R. HALLOWELL

Stop and look around you. Most likely you are sitting in a room surrounded by floor, wall and ceiling materials that were not available 80 years ago. Behind these materials are mechanical systems-heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing and electrical materials and devices-that are very different from those installed 50 years ago. Now stop and replay the last few hours of your life. Most likely you used a mobile phone, checked email, or surfed the net using a personal computer. If you drove a car, you drove a machine that offered significant performance advantages over cars manufactured 30 years ago and cost less in terms of real dollars.
