Remembering with others: The veracity of an experience in the symbol-formation process

Because memory is actualized through human actions, especially symbolic actions, memory research should deal with remembering as a symbolformation process. First of all, the present chapter will point out the inadequacy of traditional memory research. It will be criticized because of its emphasis on memory traces independent of symbolic actions. For this research, remembering is simply a process of accessing a memory trace – therefore, the use of symbols is not essential.
