ABSTRACT

Rozie is the only child of her refugee mother Nazneem. At five months she developed epilepsy. I first met her mother seven months previously. She had arrived in the UK an illegal immigrant, heavily pregnant. Her story was that in the early weeks of her pregnancy she had been arrested in her country of origin and raped. She was still overwhelmed, and in her account she repeatedly told me ‘They raped me, they raped my baby’.
