ABSTRACT

The overall impression of NNS English teachers that may have emerged from the previous chapters is that many of them, especially those teaching in EFL or Expanding Circle countries, may be wanting in English language competence. Insecure as NNS of English, they may also suffer from an inferiority complex leading to stress at work. So, as we celebrate the success of the NNS movement in gaining due recognition for these teachers’ pedagogical and professional abilities, we need to look more closely at making them more competent and confi dent users of the English language. In this chapter I will address this matter along with a number of other issues that need attention as the NNS movement continues to grow and become more infl uential in the fi eld of English language teaching.
