ABSTRACT

India is the largest South Asian country. It has a total land area of 1.25 million square miles. Owing to the huge landmass it occupies, India is often considered as a subcontinent and its immediate neighbors are treated as being geographically a part of this subcontinent. The country’s enormous physical space is matched by an equally large population concentration. It is the second most populous country in the world (after China). The current population of India is estimated at over 1.2 billion.
