ABSTRACT

Children and young people’s participation in matters affecting them is not a new concept, and, encouragingly, over the last ten years a range of policy, guidance, practical resources and research dedicated to understanding, promoting and improving children and young people’s involvement at all levels has been developed. As a result, the concept of participation has grown beyond a narrow focus on children and young people simply being present at a meeting or an event, to reflect a wider commitment to children and young people sharing power and being active partners in decision-making in relation to policy, services and their own lives.
