ABSTRACT

Family night was amazing. I learned so much about the children that I have been working with [as part of my practicum] . . . it is just a shame that the very classroom I work in doesn’t pay attention to kids’ funds of knowledge like we discussed in class. It seems like it would be so easy and smart to help kids make these connections between home and school. It just seems like there is a big gap between home and school. How do we help that? I guess my biggest fear right now is that as a student, I see what I need to do to help bridge that gap, but when I am a real teacher, will I forget? All I know is that something happens because I don’t see any teachers at the school using kids’ outside-ofschool experiences or those opportunities to teach kids during the school day.
